Alice’s tribute My tribute to Alan is also a testimony to Gods faithfulness to him & in fact to both of us throughout the years. We married as teenagers, I have been blessed to be married to this lovely man for 59 years. Like all of us, he was not perfect or a saint, but over the years my main feeling is of thankfulness. I want to tell you about the latter years of our marriage, when I have seen God transform us. Many of you will have known Alan as someone who cared about people, was very quick witted & was good fun to be with. Over the last 15 years he was changed into someone who reached out in very special ways. He made a difference in the lives of so many people by his phone calls, messages & his kindness, which continued to increase as the years went by. I believe that this was God at work in him. He became more & more soft hearted, though he never lost that quick wit & sense of humour. I want to honour God by saying I believe this was God’s work in him, though Alan would not have verbalised it that way. As many of you will recall Alan had a great love of & way with words. Many of you will have a word or phrase that you particularly associate with him.He continued throughout his life to enjoy discovering & using new words. He enjoyed other peoples use of words too. He particularly loved the innocence of little childrens mis use of words I have got so many good memories, in the last years these have increased. Alan enjoyed so many things Sitting in the sun Watching the birds in the garden The sound of the waves. His family Ever since Alan’s diagnosis in February, I have seen such courage, tenderness & what I can only describe as a kind of beauty in him. We have been blessed during this incredibly difficult time to have been able to enjoy being with one another, to sit in the garden together, to talk, to laugh & continue to build happy memories. These things will be comfort to me in time to come. I still believe that God was continuing to work in him right till the end Eph 3 v 20 says Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, Thank you Father for the privilege of being married to this lovely man. Thank you for the Joy of seeing what your were doing in him. Thank you for the confidence I have that he is with you now.
